Title: What can we gain from imposing strong quantum confinement on the perovskite nanostructures?

Abstract: Metal halide perovskite nanocrystals with the chemically tunable bandgap and superb optical properties are promising candidates for a number of high performance optoelectronic and photonic applications. The majority of studies on perovskites have focused on the large perovskite nanoparticles in the weak confinement regime, however recent synthetic advances have allowed for the preparation of high quality 0D, 1D, and 2D confined perovskites nanocrystals. The access to the strongly confined quantum dots, nanowires and nanoplates enabled the study of confinement effects on various photophysical properties of exciton in perovskites previously not recognized. The presentation will discuss various linear and nonlinear optical properties of exciton, such as confinement effect on energetics of exciton, photoinduced activation of symmetry forbidden, and facile access to intense and long-live dark exciton photoluminescence through confinement-enhanced splitting of bright and dark states. Potential application of the strongly confined perovskites as the source of photons and charges with unique characteristics not readily obtained from bulk will also be discussed.
